Resolution Is a Notability Threshold

The boring, blasé rules — map units, raster resolution, the cell size of the grid — are ‘the entire framework of the irreality.’ A raster cell is the smallest documentable unit of space: below the cell size, a thing does not exist — the meteor in the small Chilean town falls between the grid’s teeth exactly the way it falls below Wikipedia’s notability bar. Grid geometry and the notability threshold are the same border-drawing operation at two scales: each decides what is real enough to be a unit at all, and each launders that decision into something that looks like neutral measurement. The resolution is not a technical setting; it is the projection deciding what it is willing to lie about. This is why the sub-Wikipedia / sub-cell scale matters — ‘the smallest unit of information is an idea, not an article’ — and why fixing the resolution downward (documenting below the threshold) is the same act as making the irreal real.
