Don’t Reinvent the World

The architectural turn that makes a personal encyclopedia tractable: ‘you don’t need to create Germany — Germany already exists in Wikidata.’ Rather than hand-author 192 country files, build the personal layer on top of the global graph (Wikidata/SPARQL), leveraging the SQL and joins she already knows from GIS. The facts are a solved, queryable foundation; the actual work is ‘my own schemas and ontologies’ and the personal-insights layer on top. And it’s fine if the end product is just ‘my weirdo version of a Poor Richard’s almanac’ — so what, that’s cool.
