Lawful Evil Is Antifragile

The hardest evil to dismantle is lawful evil because it doesn’t fear opposition — it absorbs it. The Vatican survived Reformation, Enlightenment, Secularization, Decolonization, and sexual abuse scandals. Why? It’s antifragile: criticism becomes footnotes in archives, reformers become new orders within the structure, revolution becomes ‘renewal.’ Chaotic good gets martyred. Lawful good gets bureaucratized. Only lawful evil endures. The self-legitimation loop: better archives → more essential → more justified gatekeeping → determines what counts as legitimate scholarship. ‘You start with preservation, you end with power. And every step feels reasonable.‘
