Her own phrase for her artist persona — ‘basically an artist statement.’ Three functions operating simultaneously: Narrator — observes and reports on the situation, including the act of observation itself. Instigator — provokes examination, creates the condition where the audience must choose to engage or refuse. Imaginary — the performing self is a constructed figure, acknowledged as such; the meta-awareness is embedded in the persona, not outside it. This is the formal expression of her natural position: always inside and outside simultaneously (code-switching observation → aesthetic). The narrator doesn’t just tell the story; they comment on telling it. The instigator doesn’t just entertain; they create choice points. The imaginary isn’t pretending — it’s the explicit acknowledgment that the self performing is a performed self.
