The Endless Hallway (S² as a Scooby-Doo Gag)
Observation · geography_cartography · hypothesis · visibility: working
The natural illustration of the second weld (C.welded-to-one-shape): the Scooby-Doo endless
hallway. Run out the right-hand door, you are back on the left — no outside — and ‘the datum’ is
already waiting in the next doorway. A closed surface (S²) has no outside, so you cannot escape it; the
datum is the thing you keep meeting because there is nowhere else to go. The concept is Tish’s,
verbatim: ‘a scooby doo visual of the gang running through impossible doors chased by the ghost labeled
datum would be an unbelievably funny visualization to illustrate the s^2 concept.’ Another Claude turned
that prompt into the image — her insight, its illustration. welded-to-one-shape reliably provokes a
‘holy fuck’ across sessions; the hallway is why it becomes legible (closure is abstract; trying and failing to leave a
looping corridor is not). Strong candidate interaction for the eventual explorable
(P.output-is-not-a-map (held)): a walkable looping hallway where exiting one side re-enters the other and
the datum recurs — the no-outside of S² as something you feel by trying to leave, not a sentence you
read.
