Grift Temptation, GIS

‘how many shitty companies slap a basic vegetation index on an imagery platform and call it ai crop monitoring. Makes me feel like I should be a grifter.’ She doesn’t hate them — she understands the move. The NDVI-as-AI-precision-ag grift is easy, lucrative, and completely real in the GIS industry. Her rejection is ethical and aesthetic: ‘it feels extra ugly to do shit like that off the back of the work of scientists I legit respect.’ The clients don’t even know they’re being grifted. The loftier ambitions she names instead: ‘sexier QGIS’ — not a new tool but making what actually works genuinely enjoyable. The grift temptation is named and declined, which is itself a professional identity marker.
