The Oxford Comma Tell

Concept · linguistics · personal_truth · visibility: publishable

Her spiciest grammar take, and it isn’t really about the comma: ‘I hate the Oxford comma because it’s a tool for lazy douches to hide behind their refusal to think critically and contextually because they can’t parse eats, shoots and leaves.’ She grants its grammatical value; what she objects to is people ‘using imperfect punctuation as a way to take a dig against solid thinking.’ The comma is a tell — a way to win on a technicality instead of reading for context. Prescriptive, lazy, pedantic; the opposite of how she thinks.
