Cluttering Cognition

Concept · cognition · hypothesis · visibility: publishable

She read an article on cluttering — a fluency disorder characterized by disorganized rapid speech — and found it describing her exactly: ‘about 20 thoughts explode on my mind all at once, and I need to express them all… I need to interrupt myself to say something that I should have said before.’ Not a writing problem; a cognitive-traffic problem. The writing difficulty is downstream of needing to sequence thoughts that are structurally simultaneous. Cluttering as a frame is useful precisely because it isn’t shame-coded: it names the load without pathologizing it.
