Named by Tish as ‘my major moral compass/framework’ and ‘the real core of most power struggles.’ The core psychology under most patriarchal thinking is that women cannot be trusted to assess the world around them objectively — it attacks the basic right to be empirical. Complete agency is impossible; people make choices out of necessity all the time. But when you attack someone’s agency of emotion, and therefore their right to make claims about their own situation, ‘you have trapped them.’ Hysteria, ‘emotional,’ the discrediting of women’s testimony — all instances of denying the right to be a reliable observer of one’s own life.
