Frictionless capture enables authentic thinking; structure imposed during capture corrupts it. Instances: Diarly working (no title, no category, no minimum length), Airtable failing (schema at point of entry), stoner notes being best writing (no performance pressure), structured data as output not input. The principle: the tool that works is the one that gets out of the way at the moment of capture and handles structure later. This is why Diarly produced 352 pages and Word docs produced paralysis. Not ‘tools should be simple’ but ‘tools should match the cognitive load of the moment’ — at capture, the load is already maxed on the thought itself.
