Friction Is the Imagined Audience

Pattern · cognition · hypothesis · visibility: publishable

‘Friction and imagined audience are the same thing.’ She cannot produce reliably from stillness; she is never still. The thing that lets her write is the felt presence of someone to write to — a reader, a foil, a constraint pushing back. Remove the audience and the output stops. This reframes a productivity problem as a relational one, and explains why a conversational partner unlocks writing where a blank document never could.
